Our gallery

BD. Contemporary urban art, reframed.

Our gallery and cultural space at Puławska 31 in Warsaw.

From Lublin to Warsaw

BD began in 2012 in Lublin as Brain Damage Gallery, the first gallery in Poland devoted to contemporary urban art and its evolution. The first address was the third floor of an empty building, without windows or electricity. We moved four times and each time we built the space with our own hands. From 2016 to 2023 the gallery occupied 230 square metres on the ground floor of the Centre for the Meeting of Cultures, where exhibitions such as They Call Us Vandals, Metro Lublin and It’s Framed brought visitors from all over Poland.

Along the way we built a network of partners in Berlin, Prague, Paris and Vienna. Warsaw was the natural next step. At the end of 2024 we opened BD at Puławska 31, in a former office space of 200 square metres converted into a house for art. The interior does not copy the classic white cube. Every exhibition gets its own scenography and the space changes with each project, which lets us host large-format shows, book premieres and meetings with artists.

What we show

The Warsaw programme opened with Paweł Ryżko and his geometric abstraction rooted in Polish constructivism, accompanied by the premiere of the album Plakaty with his cover for Frank Zappa. Łukasz Ławrynowicz followed with paintings that translate digital processes into the language of canvas, and Jan Dudek with his first solo show, intimate scenes in oil on linen about the mechanisms of memory. In the same period we prepared Sainer’s solo exhibition at the Künstlerhaus Wien in Vienna, part of the programme accompanying the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Next come Sainer in Warsaw and international artists working between painting and public space, among them Jan Kaláb and Axel Void.

Books

BD is also a publishing house. We treat the book as a tool for interpreting art in its own right. Our titles so far, Koloor, Kolorganism and Kolorytm, were produced in limited collector’s editions. Exhibitions, publications and long-term work with artists form one model.
